The End of the Farm Bill?

I just saw this story on IATP’s website, and I would urge everyone interested in food policy to read it, and consider ways in which you can help get some movement going on the Farm Bill again. And maybe we should consider renaming it? Food Bill anyone?

Missing my cooking crew!

I’ve just been reading over some old posts from last semester, and noted that I’m missing my cooking crew from Sustainable Food Systems! I see some of them around campus, but that’s not the same as our weekly kitchen free-for-all. I think I need to organize a bread-baking session or something! For those of you who get a chance to cook in community this week – I’m envious!

Failure IS an option?

Hilarious! I may have to rethink my standard advice to new cooks. I say “just try – it will be okay.” Apparently not so much.

Cooking Fails – Some Epic

Beans

I admit it – I’m stuck in a bean rut. I make my own style “Boston baked beans” – except mine are MAINE baked beans, no fancy Boston label. But there are so many more bean options! So – my favorite cooking guy made some crock pot beans last week that were just incredible. Slow simmered with garlic and onion and I-don’t-know-what (you’ll have to ask him!) – they were great alone, in burritos, in tacos, yum! Good comfort food for a long, cold month.
